The goal of the MSc. in Economics of Education Programme is to develop the human capital necessary for critical research and teaching at the pre-tertiary levels and for the industry in general.
The objectives of the programme are to:
- improve the capabilities of teachers in economics so they are able to deliver at the Senior High School and other non-tertiary levels;
- train students to be able to carry out policy-relevant research related to the needs of Developing Countries and for Ghana in particular in education and economics of education;
- provide an avenue to potential students who want to study the subject at this level;
- equip students with skills combined with the analytical and conceptual abilities needed in the field of economics;
- assist in the extension of competencies and capacities to serve as economics education advocates and leaders in the field of economics;
- provide opportunities for carrying out and for interpreting research activities in teaching and teacher education at this level;
- train beneficiaries of the programme to be able to influence policy making processes in Ghana and beyond
Entry Requirement:
To be enrolled on the programme, prospective applicants are expected to have good first degrees (at least, Second Class Lower Division) in economics or related programme of study at the tertiary level of education from recognized universities and must pass a selection interview
Job Prospects:
The potential employers of graduates to be produced by the new programme include the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, Government agencies, private institutions, Non-Governmental Organizations and Community-based organizations
